The newest series on AccessWDUN, our 2020 region rundown webcast, will look at each region involving northeast Georgia area teams as we, hopefully, begin preparations for the upcoming 2020-21 sports season.
We are starting with football, looking at each region beginning with Class 7A. We will work our way down the Class A Private and Public and every classification in between.
This week we will dive into Region 8-6A, which features Buford and Habersham Central.
The foundation of the old Region 8-6A is still intact with Dacula, Lanier, Winder-Barrow, and Habersham Central. It lost Gainesville, which moved up to Class 7A, but gained former Class 7A schools Central Gwinnett and Shiloah, along with defending Class 5A state champion Buford.
Our debut webcast features Buford football coach Bryant Appling, who joins Friday Game Night to talk about the upcoming 2020 season and how they are handling coming off a state championship run s well as navigating through interesting Coronavirus waters.
Appling offered his insights into what many think will the toughest region in Class 6A. Six of the seven teams made playoff runs in 2019.
Appling expects his Wolves to be right in the middle of any playoff race but is also relishing the potential for new rivalries, like the one with nearby Lanier, and rekindling old ones, like Dacula. Those two schools battled for decades in Class A but have not faced each other since 1993.
