ATLANTA (AP) Students attending schools in the University System of Georgia will see no tuition increases next school year if the board approves the recommendation.
Students would pay the same rates at all 26 institutions as they do now for the current 2019-20 academic year, under the proposal announced Thursday. The Board of Regents is scheduled to meet Tuesday to sign off on no tuition changes for the 2020-21 academic year.
"One of the University System of Georgia's top priorities is affordability, and that has never been more important than now for our students and their families,'' USG Chancellor Steve Wrigley said in a news release. "We are all trying to navigate an extraordinary time. It is more critical than ever for our institutions to provide a quality education while maintaining the affordability and accessibility that helps more Georgians attain a college degree and find success in the workforce.''
If approved, it would be the third time in five years the system has not increased tuition. USG has the fourth-lowest in-state tuition and fees for undergraduates at four-year schools, officials said.
Chairman Sachin Shailendra said he supports Wrigley's recommendation and believes the board will approve it at next week's meeting.
