Toccoa grocery store employee tests positive for COVID-19

An employee of a Toccoa grocery story has tested positive for COVID-19, the new coronavirus.

Quality Foods Inc. released the information on its social media page Monday.

“Quality Foods has received confirmation from the Georgia Department of Public Health that an employee who works at Toccoa Quality Foods, Toccoa, has tested positive for COVID-19,” the statement reads. “We are praying for our employee and their family during this time.”

Quality Foods officials learned of the situation Saturday night and spent Sunday completing enhancing deep cleaning and disinfection, the post states.

“The safety, health, and well-being of our customers and employees remain the top priority of Quality Foods,” the post reads.

That cleaning was in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Georgia Department of Agriculture and Georgia Department of Public Health.

“Following the disinfection protocol and with the support of the Public Health department, the store is operating normal business hours, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday,” the post states.

Dave Palmer of Georgia District 2 Public Health confirmed that based on FDA guidelines, it is safe for the store to reopen after cleaning and sanitizing.

The Georgia Department of Public Health has informed Quality Foods that store customers are said to be at low risk of exposure and the products sold at the store do not represent a risk to customers.
Quality Foods invites older customers and customers with compromised immune systems to shop first between 7 and 8 a.m., with other customers asked to shop after 8 a.m.

“Our employees continue to work tirelessly to support customers and provide essential services to our community,” the post states. “We appreciate your continued support and thank you for your understanding. Let us all continue to pray for our communities, state, nation, and world as we deal with the unknowns in the days ahead.”
