Elbert Co. man killed in Sunday morning house fire

Authorities have identified the person killed Sunday morning in an Elberton house fire.

The body of Kenothy L. Brown was identified by Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond several hours after the fire, which broke out inside a home on Fortson Dr. sometime during the 9 a.m. hour.

A post on the Coroner's Office Facebook page said Brown was inside the burning building when first responders arrived on scene. A rescue effort undertaken by firefighters resulted in the victim being removed from the home, but Brown would later dies of his injuries at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Another individial, whose name has not been released, was inside the home at the time of the fire, but they were able to escape to safety through a window.

Also responding to the fire were members of the Elbert County EMS, Elbert County Sheriff’s Offic, and the Coroners office.

The incident is being investigated by Elbert County Sheriff’s Office and Elbert County Fire Department.
