Nicholson to receive first Habersham Co. High School Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. H. Stacy Nicholson, a member of Habersham Central High School's 1977 graduating class, has been chosen to receive the school’s first Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Nicholson currently serves as President of Atrium Health Levine Children’s in Charlotte, N.C., where he oversees all pediatric physicians and practices at Levine Children’s Hospital and Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital.  He serves on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Pediatrics and is immediate past chair of the pediatric hematology/oncology sub-board.

Dr. Nicholson grew up in Clarkesville. His parents, Garland and Maude Nicholson, were both garment factory workers at Carwood.  

After majoring in mathematics at Furman University, Nicholson earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia and received a Master of Public Health degree from The Georgia Washington University.  His clinical training in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology was completed at Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) in Washington, D.C., after which he provided care for children with brain tumors as CNMC's Clinical Director of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology.  During his 18 years with Oregon Health & Science University, he established the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program and held leadership positions as Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and physician-in-chief of Doernbecher Children's Hospital, In 2015, he moved to Phoenix Children's Hospital to serve as physician-in-chief prior to moving to Charlotte.  Nicholson’s career has primarily been focused on building sustainable clinical and academic programs in pediatrics and pediatric oncology.

Nicholson will address the 50th anniversary graduating class of Habersham Central in May.
