*Known for its strong connection to the New York art world, Brenau University hopes to introduce the community to artists from the other side of the country with L.A. Stories, an exhibit in the Leo Castelli Gallery running through May 7. L.A. Stories is curated by Paul Paiement, a California-based artist and tenured professor in the Art Department at Cypress College in Orange County, California.
*Maple Street in Gainesville will be closed 1:30-5:00 Monday as work continues on the expansion and renovation of the Hall County Library at Maple and West Academy.

*Grants announced this week by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources include $2,970 to Lavonia Elementary School to create a monarch and pollinator garden of native plants at the school as part of a community project.
*Brandon Meeks, the owner of Screenmobile of Gainesville, was recently recognized with the “Rookie of the Year – New Territory” award at the Screenmobile annual corporate convention.
*Fearing a decline in donors because of the Coronavirus, both the American Red Cross and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, which have collection centers in Gainesville, are appealing for blood and platelet donations.
*Four Gainesville Middle School Band members recently represented the Gainesville City School System at the Georgia Music Educators Association District Honor Band Clinic. Alexa Avila, Jaylen Bell, Chidozie Ekijembe, and Luis Garcia earned their spots through a statewide audition in December; competing with over 500 students from Northeast Georgia.
*Five fifth-graders from Tadmore Elementary School were winners at this year’s Regional Social Studies Fair. Kinzey Carpenter placed second in History, Ashly Marban placed second in Geography, McKinsey Malterer placed third in Anthropology, Victoria Cantrell placed third in Economics, and Alyssa Morris placed second in Sociology.
*The Gainesville High School Literary team won first place in the region in the Georgia High School Association Literary competition on March 7. Students who earned first place in their categories will compete in the State Literary competition on March 21. They are Marissa Woo, Emma Fockele, Oscar Gomez, Allison Vandiver, Allison Vandiver, Bella Scarlett, and Caleigh Casper, George Henry Ewers, and Lexie Richemond.
*And, 22 years ago next week (March 20) a killer tornado tore across Hall and White counties taking the lives of 14 people, 12 of them in North Hall.
