Coronavirus: Some cruise ship passengers headed to Marietta

By AccessWDUN Staff

Some of the passengers on the Grand Princess cruise ship off the California coast are being transferred to Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, according to Gov. Brian Kemp.

Kemp's office announced Sunday morning the governor has learned that 34 Georgians and other U.S. citizens from the eastern part of the country "will be securely transferred" to the military installation.  "These passengers will undergo testing and be quarantined for possible exposure to COVID-19."

Kemp says they are expected to arrive at Dobbins late Monday or early Tuesday.

"I am confident that Dobbins is equipped to provide high-quality care for Americans in need while keeping Georgia families safe, and our state stands ready to assist our federal partners if requested. In the days and weeks ahead, I encourage Georgians to pray for the patients affected by COVID-19 and their healthcare providers. We must continue to support one another, trust the advice of the medical community, and remain vigilant.

Meanwhile, the state Department of Public Health Saturday night reported a fourth possible case of the virus in Fulton County, bringing to six the number of confirmed cases in Georgia.  The others are in Polk County (previously reported as Floyd County) and Cobb County.  And, confirmatory tests by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are pending on two presumptive positive tests – one is a resident of Gwinnett County, the other is the above-mentioned Fulton County resident tested by state officials Saturday.
