Three new cases of Coronavirus have been identified in Georgia and another in Gwinnett County could soon be confirmed according to a statement from Governor Brian Kemp's office released Saturday morning.
The release said the three confirmed cases are in Cobb, Fulton and Floyd counties, bringing the total number of COVID-19 patients to five in the state. Two of the three new cases have been hospitalized.
The fourth new case, which is awaiting a "presumptive positive test", is in Gwinnett County. According to the release, that case as well as the new case in Cobb County are individuals who recently returned from trips to Italy. The cause of the new Fulton County case is unknown.
“Federal and state officials continue to work closely together to conduct testing and determine the extent of exposure for confirmed cases of COVID-19. The risk to Georgians remains low. We ask Georgians to stay vigilant, utilize best practices to mitigate health risk, and remain calm,” Governor Kemp said in the statement.
Georgia's first two cases of the novel Coronavirus strain were identified earlier this week in Fulton County in two individuals in the same household who were returning from a trip to Italy.
The release urged Georgians to continue good hygenic practices like washing hands thoroughly, avoiding contact with sick people and staying home when sick. It also advises that if anyone feels a fever with cough and shortness of breath withing 14 days of returning from a trip or coming in contact with a suspected COVID-19 case, they should contact their health care provider.
