GAINESVILLE ー Dawson County opened its Region 7-3A schedule with a huge 2-0 road win over North Hall Tuesday at Lynn Cottrell Field.

The Tigers (9-0, 1-0 Region 7-3A) scored a run in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Luke Mulberry driving in Bo Lewis, who had singled with two out. They added a run in the third on a two-out steal of home by Lewis.

That was more than enough for Dawson County starter Hudson Sapp, who surrendered just one Jay Johnson single in the sixth while striking out seven to earn the win.

North Hall’s Jackson Dyer gave up five hits and walked five in five innings but also struck out six in five innings..

The Trojans fell to 8-3 overall, 0-1 with the loss.

Lewis had three of the Tigers’ eight hits and Kincade Weaver had two hits. Sapp and Mauricio Hernandez each had one hit for Dawson County.

The two teams are scheduled to resume their three-game series either Friday or Saturday with a doubleheader in Dawsonville.
