Gainesville council okays two Davis Street housing projects and Firestone's return to Lakeshore Mall

GAINESVILLE – The Gainesville City Council gave final approval Tuesday evening to a pair of rezoning requests and to a special use application.

Davis Pine, LLC, will be constructing seven additional multi-family apartments across the street from, and identical to, The Enclave Townhome apartment complex on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

The Gainesville Non-Profit Development Foundation has plans for five affordable-housing single-family homes on Davis Street, on 1.01-acres abutting the site in the paragraph above.

These two projects will require the re-opening of a currently closed street according Community and Economic Development Deputy Director, Matt Tate.  “Access is planned from the future reopening and extension of Davis Street,” Tate said.

Davis Street intersects with Queen City Parkway.  Residential parking will be behind the respective new buildings.

And Firestone plans to return to the Lakeshore Mall campus with a new auto care center on what is currently a section of the mall’s northernmost parking lot.

A trio of public hearings was conducted for the three items with no one speaking either in favor of, or opposition to, any of the requests.

All three requests had conditions recommended by the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board during the application process and those conditions were part of the unanimous approval given by the city council.
