Forsyth County and the city of Winder are among recipients of more than $19 million in “Conserve Georgia” grants from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program.
The state Department of Natural Resources announced the grant recipients earlier this week.
Forsyth County will use $2.25 million to create a 225-acre outdoor passive recreation space along the Etowah River. Eagle's Beak Park will serve as a recreation corridor, featuring a large greenspace area, a play park and trail system marking the historical Trail of Tears.
Winder will use one million dollars for a Winder/Ft. Yargo Multi-Use Connector Trail. The one-mile trail will be available for walking, bicycling, inline skating and nature viewing from downtown Winder to Fort Yargo State Park. The 10 ft.-wide pathway will create access for residents, park patrons and visitors to and from the state park and the city.
