Gainesville City Schools announces potential second middle school

Superintendent Jeremy Williams announced at Wednesday Gainesville City School Board work session that a location for a second middle school had been selected.

There are four parcels that make up the space on McEver Road near Gould Road, about 25% of which will need to be annexed into the city.

"We have just a couple of things left on our check box before we turn it over to the state to gain their final approval," Williams said. "We're looking at a 23 acre tract in between Gainesville Exploration Academy and Mundy Mill. It's listed on the items of our SPLOST projects moving forward."

The parcels are in due diligence period, and the middle school would go forth only if an ESPLOST is approved. "If that passes we'll get started on this by the end of year breaking ground," said Williams.

They are hoping to close by the end of the month.

More information about the School will be at the next board meeting.
