Martin man killed in crash while fleeing GSP

A Martin man died after he was thrown from the car he was driving while fleeing from a state trooper in Stephens County today.

Christopher Scott Taylor, 35, of Martin died as a result of his injuries, said Sgt. 1st Class D.O. Saddler of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

The trooper checked the vehicle traveling south on Ga. 17 at a high rate of speed about 1:20 p.m., Saddler said.

“The trooper activated his emergency lights in an attempt to make a traffic stop,” Saddler said. “The driver refused to stop and continued fleeing south from the trooper. The vehicle was identified as a silver 2003 Volvo S40.

“The Volvo driver made a left turn onto South Yow Mill Road and traveled east at high speed, running other motorists off the roadway.,” Saddler said. “The Volvo driver negotiated a curve, lost control and veered off the roadway's north shoulder. The Volvo rolled over several times while ejecting the driver.”

The collision investigation is ongoing by Post 7 and Georgia State Specialized Reconstruction Team.
