Wrong-way crash on 365 injures Cornelia man

A wrong-way crash on Ga. 365 south of Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway Wednesday morning injured a Cornelia man and sent a Toccoa woman to jail.

"At approximately 6:42 this morning, a 2012 Chrysler 200, driven by Chester Skelton, 93, of Cornelia, mistakenly traveled the wrong way onto Ga. 15 [Ga. 365] going north in the southbound lanes,” said Cpl. John Getty of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

“The Chrysler had a head-on collision with a 2020 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Annie Chamlee, 46, of Toccoa,” Getty said. “A secondary collision, side-swipe same direction, occurred between the Chevrolet pickup truck and a southbound 2019 Ford truck, driven by Hal Free, 54, of Clarksville.”

Skelton was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Neither Chamlee nor Free was hurt.

Chamlee was arrested on scene for driving under the influence - drugs/marijuana, Getty said.
