Boys basketball: Knights beat Spartans; Lakeview wins; GHS falls to N. Gwinnett

OAKWOOD — The Johnson boys used a big first quarter to grab the lead and never let up in taking a 58-41win over arch-rival West Hall on Saturday.

Behind Wade Pearce, who drained four 3-pointers and poured in 16 points, the Knights jumped out to a 22-9 lead after the firat quarter and 37-20 by halftime. Pearce finished with 22 points to pace Johnson.

The two teams both scored 21 points in the second half as the Spartans could not catch up.

Jackson Vandiver added 12 points, Dayshun Summerour 9 points, and Jose Cabrera 8 points for Johnson

West Hall was paced by Braydon Simms with 9 points.

Johnson next will play host to Clarke Central on Tuesday in its Region 8-5A opener.

Declan Weidner hit a basket at the buzzer to lift the Lions to a Region 6-A Private win on Saturday.
Weidner poured in a game-high 31 points to pace Lakeview Academy (2-1, 2-1 Region 6-A Private). Harrison Cooper added 12 points, Liam Weidner had 11, and Issac Marcero had 10 points for the Lions.

Lakeview next will play host to Brandon Hall on Wednesday.


NORTH GWINNETT 59
GAINESVILLE 44

The Gainesville boys could not hold an early lead in a road loss to North Gwinnett on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Elephants led 9-7 after the first quarter but the Bulldogs used a 16-8 second quarter to take a 23-17 lead into the intermission. North Gwinnett outscored Gainesville 23-14 in the third quarter to pull away for a 46-31 lead.

Gainesville could not get closer as the two teams played to a draw in the final period.

Robert Resiman led Gainesville with 17 points. Sahmir Kinghad 7 points and Eli Pitts 6 for the Red Elephants.

RJ Godfrey had a game-high 18 points for the Bulldogs, 13 coming in the second half.
