TIGER — Rabun County clinched its seventh straight Region 8-2A title Friday night with a 63-14 thumping of rival Union County at home on Friday.
Junior quarterback Gunnar Stockton also had a big day, throwing for 380 yards and 6 TDs which helped him move past fellow Wildcats standout Bailey Fisher on the all-time TD list. Stockton tossed 6 TD passes and threw for two more.
Stockton led Class 2A in passing before Friday’s action. His favorite target, Adriel Clark, also led the classification in receiving.
The pair connected for 8 catches for 131 yards and 4 touchdowns. Sutton Jones had 4 catches for 120 while RB Lang Windham continued his run up the leaderboard with just 93 yards rushing.
It was a 28-point second quarter that was the difference. Rabun County had managed just one scoring drive in the first 12 minus before exploding out to a 35-0 lead by halftime as Stockton and Clark connected for three TD passes and Stockton ran in for one score.
Union County never recovered and the Panthers didn’t score until a 90-yard kickoff return to close out the third quarter.
