The offenses have not slowed down as we wind down the regular season of the 2020 high school football season. And as the team numbers pile up, so do the individual numbers.
Half-a-dozen northeast Georgia area players come into the next-to-last week leading their respective classifications in rushing, passing, or receiving.
Three area quarterbacks lead in passing out of eight classifications and two receivers as well. Some teams still run the ball and the area has one of the top rushers in the state.
Despite having last week off, North Hall's Clark Howell continues to lead in Class 3A. The senior running back has piled up 1,259 yards to go with 17 touchdowns, which is also good sixth overall. He was just 134 yards off the state lead last week but with two games left the state's leading rusher, Narada Levett of Central-Carroll, had a monster game last week and Clark now trails Levett by 363 yards for the overall lead. Clark and the Trojans will be back in action this week in another huge Region 7-3A contest against Cherokee Bluff in Flowery Branch.
Habersham Central senior quarterback Joshua Pickett is 11th overall and third in Class 6A with 1,177 yards rushing after the Raiders also were off last week. Rabun County's Lang Windham topped the 1,000-yard mark last week and now sits at 1,043, which is 24th overall and third in Class 2A.
Meanwhile, Rabun County quarterback Gunner Stockton moved up a spot to eighth in the state and is still leading the way in Class 2A. The junior South Carolina-commit now has 1,985 yards and 32 touchdowns with just 1 interception. That also has helped senior target Adriel Clark climb to the top of the chart to lead the state in receiving with 1,013 yards and 19 TDs, which leads Class 7A leader Travis Hunter of Collins Hill (1,010 yards) by just 3 yards.
Dawson County's Zach Holtzclaw remained in sixth overall in the state with 2,020 yards passing, which once again leads Class 3A. The junior has tossed 21 TD passes to three different receivers with over 420 yards each. And Flowery Branch junior quarterback David Renard jumped three spots into seventh (1,991 yards) after a big game last week against Madison County and maintained his lead in Class 4A.
And West Hall senior receiver Rodrigo Lopez continues to lead Class 3A in receiving with 777 yards, which now puts him in the top 10 (10th) overall in the state.
