State Patrol investigates after crash in Dahlonega kills motorcyclist

A motorcyclist from Gainesville was killed in an accident Saturday in Dahlonega.

Troopers with the Cumming Post of the Georgia State Patrol responded to the motor vehicle accident at SR 115/Long Branch Road and Azalea Ridge.

James Menard, 41, was driving a 1998 Harley Davidson when he was struck by a 2010 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Preston Tritt, 56, of Murrayville. Troopers said the initial investigation showed Tritt was traveling northbound on Long Branch Road and struck the motorcycle from behind.

No charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation. Menard was wearing a motorcycle helmet and alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors.

More details are expected as the investigation concludes.
