After some big offensive games last week by area teams, not much changed on the individual stat leaders board statewide.
Which is a good thing for area players. The northeast Georgia area continues to pace the state with once again three quarterbacks, two receivers, and one running back leading their respective classifications. Only the numbers have changed to promote their ridiculous (in a good way) production.
North Hall's Clark Howell has put the Trojans on his back and they have ridden him to a five-game winning streak and a playoff berth in Region 7-3A. The senior running back piled up another huge game last week (232 yards and 4 TDs in a win over Gilmer) and is now in fourth-place statewide in rushing with 1,259 yards to go with 17 touchdowns. Both of those numbers lead Class 3A as well. He is just 134 yards off the state lead with two games left for the Trojans.
Habersham Central senior quarterback Joshua Pickett jumped eight spots from last week to now sixth overall in the state with 1,177 yards, which is good for second in Class 6A. He now trails classification leader Amehre Morrison of River Ridge (1,356 yards) but just 179 yards.
Rabun County quarterback Gunner Stockton continues to lead the way in Class 2A. The junior South Carolina-commit has thrown for 1,765 yards (good for 9th overall) and 29 touchdowns with just 1 interception. As he has continued his barrage of Region 8-2A, senior target Adriel Clark leads Class 2A in receiving with 823 yards and 16 TDs, which moves him up to fourth in the state, all classifications.
Meanwhile, Dawson County's Zach Holtzclaw jumped up three spots into sixth overall in the state with 1,839 yards, which once again leads Class 3A. The junior has tossed 20 TD passes to three different receivers with over 420 yards each.
And Flowery Branch junior quarterback David Renard, who for the early part of the season led the entire state in passing, has moved back into the lead in Class 4A with 1,751 yards, which puts him 10th overall. He retook the classification lead from fellow Region 8-4A signal-caller Clete Cooper of East Hall, who is now second in Class 4A and 14th overall with 1,630 yards.
West Hall senior receiver Rodrigo Lopez continues to lead Class 3A with 713 yards, which is good for 11th overall in the state. After a big game last week, Flowery Branch’s Connor Larson has moved into second in Class 4A with 663 yards, putting him back in the top 20 again. East Hall junior Macere Walker, who led 4A last week, dropped to third in the classification with 605 yards.
