A Gwinnett County government employee with ties to Brenau University has been named the new head of the county's Community Outreach Program.

Shaunieka Taylor, who spent the last 13 years working for the county's Communications Division, was appointed on Friday by Gwinnett County Administrator Glenn Stephens. Her most recent role was serving as the division’s public relations manager.

“For more than a decade, Shaunieka has gained a wealth of knowledge about this organization and understands the role our many functions play in serving the people who live and work in Gwinnett County,” Stephens said in a release sent to local media. “In addition, she possesses the heart of a servant, with a keen ability to connect with people of all backgrounds and experiences.”

Taylor earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the College of Charleston, followed by a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Brenau University.

Gwinnett County's Community Outreach Program was established by the county Board of Commissioners in 2015, and aims to help county residents become more "informed and involved" in their local government.

Taylor will be tasked with "foster[ing] communication and engagement with diverse constituencies, coordinates cultural events and provides civic education and youth leadership development."
