Gainesville DWR responds to sewer spill off Dawsonville Highway

By Regan Spinks, AccessWDUN staff

The Gainesville Department of Water Resources responded to and stopped a sewer spill near Lakeshore Drive off Dawsonville Highway Thursday, Oct. 29.

Damaging winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Zeta caused a tree to fall on and damage an aerial span of sewer line, resulting in the spill of raw sewage. The spill impacted Longwood Cove.

Gainesville DWR crews are in the process of making repairs to the sewer line. As of Thursday, the DWR had not confirmed the amount of raw sewage spilled or received test results from the nearby streams.

“DWR crews will continue to work until the situation is resolved,” DWR Director Linda MacGregor said in a news release Thursday.
