GAINESVILLE — Grant Crowell earned a top 10 finish, tying for eighth, as the University of North Georgia men's golf team beat the 54-hole scoring record in program history Tuesday in the UNG Fall Invitational at Chattahoochee Golf Club.
The Nighthawks also earned two spots in the 18-hole scoring records over the course of the tournament, including a tie for fourth with the final round 286 (-2).
UNG finished in a tie for fourth with Lee at 5-under 859 for the 54-hole event. The score is one shot better than the 2018 UNG Fall Invitational score that previously served as the best 54-hole score.
Crowell's 54-hole score of 7-under 209 is good for a tie for second in the all-time records at UNG, tying Joseph Jarrard's 2017 UNG Fall Invitational score and Logan Archer's 2018 UNG Fall Invitational tournament total. The senior finished the tournament with a final round of 4-under 68 to end with his first collegiate top 10 finish.
USC Aiken ran away late with the team tournament title, finishing with a 54-hole score of 27-under 837. Their final round team score of 15-under 273 broke the tournament record for a single round team score. Lincoln Memorial and Piedmont finished seven shots back in a tie for second.
Individually, Piedmont's Matthew Leemann won the tournament with a 12-under tournament total, one shot better than Lincoln Memorial's Dan Bradbury. Columbus State's Jordan Doull and Ronan Kleu and Georgia Southwestern's Chase McLain also earned All-Tournament Team honors after finishing as part of a five-way tie for third.
The fall season for the Nighthawks has concluded, and the spring 2021 schedule will be released at a later date.
