AUGUSTA — The Union County girls volleyball team advanced to its first-ever Final 4 after taking down Davidson Fine Arts on Wednesday on the road in the Class 2A/A Public quarterfinals.
The Lady Panthers took a 3-1 victory (25-21, 25-18, 16-25, 25-19) after a strong opening and a solid finish to the match.
Union County next will travel to Buckhead to take on Pace Academy on Saturday as the Lady Panthers look to secure a spot in the championship match on Nov. 7.
Jefferson advanced to the semifinals in Class 4A with a 3-1 win (25-14, 25-9, 21-25, 25-21) over Columbus on Wednesday. It is the first semifinals appearance for the Lady Dragons since 2013 (Class 3A). They will take on the Northwest Whitfield-Islands winner on Saturday.
On the the Buford volleyball twitter page the Lady Wolves announced they had advanced in Class 6A with a match win over Region 2 champion Richmond Hill near Savannah on the road. Buford made the semifinals in Class 5A last season but was knocked out by eventual state champion McIntosh.
