A man from Manchester, Georgia is in the Hall County Jail for pointing a handgun at a Hall County Sheriff’s deputy, among other charges.
According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, 43-year-old Williams Lawrence Schmidt refused to leave an East Hall home Tuesday night, prompting a female occupant to call for help.
When the deputy arrived at the home on Country Lane, Schmidt ran to the front door and pushed his way inside. The deputy saw Schmidt jump on top of a sixteen-year-old girl inside the home and heard screaming.
The deputy followed Schmidt into the home, but Schmidt escaped through another entrance and into a neighbor’s yard. The deputy caught up to Schmidt and took him to the ground after giving numerous commands for him to stop.
During the struggle, Schmidt continued to resist and pointed a handgun at the deputy. The deputy got the gun away from Schmidt, tossed it out of reach and held Schmidt still until more deputies arrived.
Schmidt was arrested without further incident when more deputies arrived. No one was injured during the crime.
Schmidt faces full charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, simple battery under the Family Violence Act, criminal trespass, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and obstruction-resisting officer/arrest.
This case is still under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
