Renard, Falcons roll over Hiram; set up showdown with Jefferson

By AccessWDUN Staff

HIRAM — Class 4A No. 8 Flowery Branch got another solid offensive performance in a 34-7 smackdown of Hiram on Friday on the road.

It also was the third consecutive victory for the Falcons (3-1) since an opening loss to St. Pius.

David Renard, the state's passing leader, did not let the off week slow him down. The junior threw for 290 yards and a pair of touchdowns, one to Sal Sengson (5 catches, 85 yards) and one to Baxley O'Brien (3 catches, 40 yards). Connor Larson had 2 catches for 50 yards and Ryan Lusco hauled in 4 catches for 90 yards for Flowery Branch.

Sophomore running back Myles Ivey paced the rushing attack with 25 carries for 130 yards and senior Jaizen Ellingham, who is working back into shape, had 7 carries for 45 yards and two TDs.

A rebuilding defense, which had allowed 102 points (34 ppg) in its first three games, gave up just one touchdown in its best outing of the season.

The Falcons will put their hot start to the ultimate test next week as they play host to No. 2 Jefferson (4-0) and Power 5 recruit Malaki Starks.
