Softball: Buford sweeps 8-6A DH, East Hall, Branch take big 8-4A wins; Wednesday roundup

BUFORD — Buford stayed perfect in Region 8-6A play after sweeping doubleheader over Shiloh Wednesday at the Buford Softball Complex.

The Lady Wolves (22-4, 12-0 Region 8-6A) opened with a 17-0 win in the first game and capped the day with an 11-0 win in the second game.

In the first game, Buford used a 13-run second inning to eventually invoke the mercy rule.

Freshman Mackenzie Pickens led a 16-hit barrage with three hits, including a triple, with 2 RBI and three runs scored. Senior Abbi Perkins had two hits, including a solo home run, and knocked in four runs. Freshman Adrianna Martinez had two hits and 3 RBIs and senior Emmy Hall had two hits and 2 RBIs as well.

Freshman Emma Grace Williams improved to 9-1 in the circle scattering two hits and fanning five.

In the second game, the Lady Wolves scored six runs in the second and four in the third to break it open.

Freshman Morgan Sullivan earned her first-ever varsity win in the circle giving up three hits and striking out two in three innings.

Buford only needed six hits with sophomore Emma Castorri knocking in three runs on two hits. Junior Taylor Malvin had a pair of triples and one RBI, and Pickens had double and 2 RBIs..

Buford will look to stay unbeaten in region play on Thursday playing host to Habersham Central.  First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.


FLOWERY BRANCH 11,
JEFFERSON 0

Flowery Branch used a huge eight-run fourth inning to blow open a close game en route to a Region 8-4A win over Jefferson on Wednesday in five innings

In the big inning, Kate Stage, Lauren Hicks, Amanda LeBlanc, Avery Thomas, and Aubrey Bourrie, all drove in runs.

Nikki Harris got the win for the Lady Falcons going the distance scattering three hits, walking one, and striking out eight.

Ravyn Saxon started the game for Jefferson but lasted just three innings allowing six runs on six hits and fanning three. Camoreea Hart threw the final two innings out of the bullpen for the Lady Dragons.

In the four-run second, Thomas belted a home run for Flowery Branch. Savanna Rutledge had two hits for the Lady Falcons.


EAST HALL 14,
CEDAR SHOALS 1

East Hall pounded out 16 hits and used three big innings in taking a win over Cedar Shoals in Region 8-4A action on Wednesday.

The Lady Vikings scored five runs in the first, four in the second, and invoked the mercy rule with six runs in the fifth inning.

In the sixth, Ashly Turner, Lizzy Davis, Mikala Shermon, Ansley Ivey, Bailey Thompson, and Cielo Carsballo each had RBIs hits.

Callie Hardison started for East Hall  and went one inning allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one.  Thompson threw the final four innings in relief recording 12 outs to earn the save.

Abi Mullins, Ivey, Alexis Burce, and Gracie Ausborn all had multiple hits on the day for East Hall.


LUMPKIN COUNTY 8,
DAWSON COUNTY 5

Lumpkin County scored three runs in the first and three runs in the sixth to propel the Lady Indians to a Region 7-3A win over Dawson County on Wednesday. 

Amma Johnson smacked a bg three-run home run in the sixth after Dawson County had cut an early lead to 5-3. 

In the first, Lumpkin County scored on a RBI double from Lauren English and a RBI single by Haley Voyles.

Emmie Graham paced Lumpkin County in the circle going six innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs while striking out three and walking none.

Olivia Martinez and surrendered eight runs on eight hits in six-plus innings, striking out two. Layne Bailey threw one inning in relief for the Lady Tigers.

Bella Henson also hit a home run for Dawson County in the sixth inning.

Henson, Lauren Kurtz, and Bailey each collected multiple hits for Dawson County.

Lumpkin County had 11 hits on the day. with Haley Sparks, English, Voyles, and Johnson all banging out multiple hits on the day.
