The asphalt Super Late Model short track season is set to kick off this weekend, as the Championship Racing Association opens with SpeedFest 2020 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia.
The event includes 200 laps for the ARCA/CRA Super Late Modes and a 125 lap feature for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Pro Late Models on Saturday afternoon.
Last year, Connor Okrzesik held off NASCAR superstar Kyle Busch over the closing laps to win the Super Late Model feature.
Okrzesik will be back to defend his victory, while Busch will be in Daytona participating in the Rolex 24 sports car event.
Several Georgia drivers are set to compete, including Bubba Pollard of Senoia, Kyle Plott of Marietta, Jake Garcia of Monroe, Kyle Sieg of Buford, Dawson Fletcher of Canton and Corey Heim of Marietta.
The race will also see Snowball Derby winner Travis Braden, along with the first race for Stephen Nasse since he was disqualified following taking the checkered flag first at the Derby.
Peach State driver Casey Roderick scored the victory in last year’s Pro Late Model feature. Gainesville, Georgia’s Shane Chastain leads a host of home state drivers for his year’s event, along with veteran wheelman Russell Fleeman of Dacula, Ryan Herbert of Cumming, Christopher Tullis of Dacula, and Ronny Kittle of Bogart.
Alabama standout Justin South is also entered, along wiht Billy Van Meter, Dylan Fetchco and Steve Dorer.
Action is set to begin at 1:30 pm on Saturday with Legends and Bandolero racing, followed by the Pro Late Model feature and the Super Late Model event.
