*The Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art at Piedmont College will host a public reception 5 to 7 p.m., February 6 to celebrate the work of Cheryle Goldsleger, an acclaimed artist who served on the Piedmont faculty from 1998 to 2001.   A selection of Goldsleger’s works, titled Limits~Illusions, continues to be on display at the museum through February 7.

*"Tandem Witness," an exhibition of artwork by Peggy McBride, will open January 31 at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School's art gallery. The gallery opening begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31 on the second floor of the Arts & Technology Building at RGNS. Refreshments will be served and the artist will be in attendance.

*Gail Hogan, the Outreach Youth Services Librarian for the Hall County Library System,  has been nominated for the “I Love my Librarian” national award

*Dawson County is in need of foster families.  A training session for potential foster families will begin Feb. 8.  Anyone interested in the program should contact Blake Boyer, DFCS Caregiver Recruitment, at (706) 525-1130 for additional information. This class will not be offered again until May/April.

*The Department of Art at Piedmont College will host a reception Jan. 30 for its Annual High School Art Exhibition  It will take place from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Smith-Williams Gallery on the Demorest campus.  The works of about 50 students from area high schools are on display now through January 31.

*More daytime single-lane closures are planned this week at the Browns Bridge Road bridge replacement project at the Hall-Forsyth county line.  The closures will occur daily Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

*The Red Cross has a critical type O blood shortage and urgently needs donors of all blood types – especially types O negative and O positive – to give blood or platelets.   Click here to find a Red Cross blood drive near you.  As AccessWDUN reported a week ago, LifeSouth is also experiencing a shortage.
