DAWSONVILLE — Eli Burruss knocked down a jumper with 1.5 seconds left in the third overtime to lift Dawson County to a thrilling 84-82 come-from-behind win over Denmark in a battle of state-ranked teams.

While Burruss had the game-winner, it was Campbell Reed and Jasper Gibson that provided the spark for the Tigers (19-2).

Dawson County trailed 52-39 heading into the fourth quarter but opened the period with a 13-0 run to tie the game. Reed led the charge with 8 of the 13 points. He poured in 16 in the quarter as the team finished tied at 63.

It was then Gibson’s turn. The teams finished tied at 70 after the first overtime and 76 after the second with Gibson pouring 17 of the Tigers 21 points in the three overtime periods.

“Campbell Reed was amazing in the fourth quarter and brought us back. In OT Jasper hit big shot after big shot,” Dawson County coach Eric Herrick said. “On the last possession, our kids just made a great play. They took our guards away but Brody Howell found Eli Burruss for the go-ahead bucket. Just a great team win. Proud of our guys.”

Gibson finished with a game-high 35 for Dawson County. Reed had 28 and Mason Barnes 13 for the Tigers.

Denmark was led by Robert Cowherd with 27. Adonnis Tolbert had 24 for the Danes (15-5).
