AAA: Gas prices drop 2-cents a gallon in past week

By AccessWDUN Staff

Compared to a week ago, Georgia gas prices have dropped just a bit. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $2.44 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, which 2-cents less than a week ago. Monday's state average is  4-cents more than last month and 37-cents more than this time last year, according to Sunday's weekly fuel price report from AAA-The Auto Club Group.

It now costs $36.60 to fill a 15-gallon tank of gasoline; that is $4.50 less than what motorists paid in April of 2019, when pump prices hit their peak of $2.74 per gallon.

"While there is still clear geopolitical tension in the Middle East at this time, there appears to be no immediate threat to crude supply domestically or globally that can support a sustained increase to crude oil prices or domestic wholesale gasoline prices,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA. "Pump prices will likely decline moving into the week, assuming that no further actions increase tension in the region.”

National Average

Sunday's national average was $2.58, which is the same as last week, 1 cent less than last month, and 34 cents more than this time last year. Wholesale gas prices and crude prices saw temporary, reactive spikes as a result of increased tension between the U.S. and Iran after the U.S. announced that it killed Iran’s Major General Qassem Soleimani last week. Tensions have since eased, with the U.S. announcing new economic sanctions on Iran instead of additional military strikes, helping to calm the market.

  • Least expensive Georgia metro markets – Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($2.36), Rome-Dalton ($2.38), and Warner Robbin ($2.40).
  • The average price in Hall County is $2.40.
