GAINESVILLE — Chestatee used a stingy halfcourt defense and the firepower of Emma Easterwood to knock off arch-rival North Hall, 47-39, Saturday on the road.

Easterwood poured in a game-high 20 points to pace the War Eagles. Maggie McNair had 11 points and Bowen Corley added 9 points for Chestatee (11-8, 4-3 Region 7-4A).

"We played the best half-court defense that we have played all season -- and did it for 32 minutes," Chestatee coach Sutton Shirley said.

The defense was, indeed, the name of the game for the War Eagles. After falling behind, 13-10, after the first quarter, the War Eagles hunkered down on defense and found their groove on offense. They went on a 13-0 run to take a 26-19 lead at the break.

It didn't stop in the third quarter, outscoring North Hall 11-5 and a 37-24 lead in the third. North Hall tried to rally in the third quarter but fell short.

Lauren Swanson and Grace Hollifield had 10 points each to lead the Trojans.
