GAINESVILLE — Chestatee used a stingy halfcourt defense and the firepower of Emma Easterwood to knock off arch-rival North Hall, 47-39, Saturday on the road.

Easterwood poured in a game-high 20 points to pace the War Eagles. Maggie McNair had 11 points and Bowen Corley added 9 points for Chestatee (11-8, 4-3 Region 7-4A).
"We played the best half-court defense that we have played all season -- and did it for 32 minutes," Chestatee coach Sutton Shirley said.

The defense was, indeed, the name of the game for the War Eagles. After falling behind, 13-10, after the first quarter, the War Eagles hunkered down on defense and found their groove on offense. They went on a 13-0 run to take a 26-19 lead at the break.

It didn't stop in the third quarter, outscoring North Hall 11-5 and a 37-24 lead in the third. North Hall tried to rally in the third quarter but fell short.

Lauren Swanson and Grace Hollifield had 10 points each to lead the Trojans.

Chestatee next will travel to Flowery Branch on Tuesday, while North Hall (14-6, 5-2 Region 7-3A) will travel to Fannin County on Tuesday.

Lakeview Academy stayed unbeaten in Region 8-A play after routing Athens Christian Saturday on the road.

The Lady Lions (14-5, 4-0 Region 8-A) were paced by Eliza Snyder with 17 points and 7 steals. Joelle Snyder added 17 points and 6 rebounds and Jackie Allen had 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists for Lakeview. Maddy Towles also pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds to go with 8 assists, Elise Roark had 8 points and 7 rebounds, and Ellie Kate Madonna had 6 points and 8 rebounds.

The Lady Spartans (4-17) snapped a 9-game losing streak with a win over their arch-rivals.

Kinsey Wilson poured in 20 points and pulled down 9 rebounds to lead the Lady Spartans.

India Johnson added 14 points and Amber Hughes added 8 points for West Hall.

Blair Wallis scored 15 points and Tamori Plantin had 11 in the Wolves non-region win over Peachtree Ridge Saturday afternoon at Buford Arena.

Tatum Ozment and Katelyn Klein scored 10 each, while Sara Viti chipped in 9 points.

The Wolves (17-0, 4-0 Region 8-5A) will play Clarke Central on Tuesday at home. Game time is 6 p.m.

Ellie Cook added 12 points, Andelin Hill scored 9, Kait McCarter hit 7, and Brooke Dockrey turned in 6 points.

Fannin's Morgan Holt and Abby Ledford scored 10 points each.

Union County (13-3, 5-1 Region 8-2A) will travel to Elbert County on Tuesday. Tip is 6 p.m.
