By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Contracts totaling nearly five million dollars have been approved by the state Department of Transportation for road resurfacing in Lumpkin and Banks counties and bridge construction in Elbert.

The Lumpkin County project involves ten miles of resurfacing on Georgia Highway 9 between Georgia 60 Business and State Route 11 at a cost of $2.4 million.

In Banks County, almost six miles of Georgia 98 will be repaved, starting at State Route 164 and extending to Georgia 52.  The amount of that contract is $1.5 million.

The Elbert Country project calls for the construction of a new bridge on Fork Creek Road over Deep Creek at a cost of $900.

All three projects are expected to be finished by November, according to GDOT.
