*University of North Georgia students will share what they believe Martin Luther King Jr. would see as today's biggest social justice issue in oratorical contests set for Jan. 22 on the Gainesville Campus and Jan. 29 on the Dahlonega Campus. Click here for more details.

*The City of Suwanee is seeking proposals and samples from artists for the city’s finders-keepers art-in-nature program.  Artistic proposals for this year’s program will be accepted through January 31. Guidelines and an application are available at suwanee.com.

*During their meeting on Jan. 9, Forsyth County Commissioners recognized South Forsyth Middle School sixth-grade student Saanvi Warke for winning the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District’s Water Essay Contest.

*The Gwinnett County Police Department is seeking applications from people interested in serving as a volunteer Police Chaplain.  Anyone interested can begin the application process by downloading and completing the Volunteer Application Packet at the following link: https://www.gwinnettcounty.com/web/gwinnett/departments/police/volunteeropportunities.

*Logan Paugh of Braselton and Spencer Carroll of Buford are among a group of 22 receiving service academy nominations from 10th District Congressman Jody Hice.

*Brenau Women's College alumna Shannon McIntosh has won a 2020 Golden Globe for her work as producer of the film "Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood."  The awards were handed out a week ago.

*Bishop Reginald T. Jackson, Presiding Bishop, AME Church 6th Episcopal District-Georgia, will speak at 10:00 Jan. 20 at Gainesville's St. John Baptist Church as part of the city's 34th MLK Day observance, sponsored by the Newtown Florist Club.  Also that day, the annual King Day March will begin at 1:00, followed by a Youth Rally at Fair St. Elementary Schoool.
