ATLANTA — Atlanta United announced Friday that Goalkeeper Coach Aron Hyde is departing the club to join U.S. Soccer as Goalkeeper Coach with the U.S. Men’s National Team.
“We want to thank Aron for his contributions to the club as he is an excellent coach who provided great leadership for our goalkeeping group,” said Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra. “He embodied the culture of the club and helped drive the group forward. We wish him the best as he pursues an exciting career opportunity with U.S. Soccer and the possibility to go to a World Cup.”
Hyde was named the club’s inaugural Goalkeeper Coach on Nov. 13, 2016. Hyde’s leadership helped Atlanta goalkeepers concede the fourth-fewest goals in MLS in 2017 and 2018 and allowed just two goals throughout the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs. Additionally, Brad Guzan posted a shutout streak of 542 minutes in 2017– the sixth-longest in league history. In 2019, Guzan tied the league lead with 18 victories and set a new single-season franchise record with 14 clean sheets, which also was tied for the most in MLS. Atlanta conceded the fifth-fewest goals in 2019 while the veteran goalkeeper was selected to his second consecutive MLS All-Star Game. Atlanta also set a new MLS record with five consecutive shutout victories last season.
Prior to Atlanta, Hyde spent two years with U.S. Soccer as a Goalkeeper Coach, both with the youth and men’s national teams. He also spent six seasons as Goalkeeper Coach with Chicago Fire (2010-15) and was previously on the coaching staffs at the University of Washington (2009) and Seattle University (2006-09).
