BUFORD — Buford scored 35 consecutive points to erase an early deficit en route to a 42-14 win over Class 7A, and previously-unbeaten, Newton Friday night at Tom Riden Stadium.

But quarterback Jarvis Evans connected with Justice Johnson on a 36-yard pass later in the quarter to tie the game. Buford took the lead for good midway through the second quarter when Evans found Gabe Ervin on a 5-yard TD pass for a 14-7 halftime lead.
Buford blew the game open in the third. The Wolves exploded for 21 points, highlighted by an Elijah Turner 51-yard touchdown run on the opening play of the second half. He scored again later in the third on an 8-yard run. Those sandwiched a Mason McCranie 4-yard interception return for a touchdown as Buford led 35-7
Newton's Neal Howard and Diondre Glover connected on a 75-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 35-14 heading into the fourth quarter.
Evans tossed his third TD pass of the game, hitting Julien Lewis for an 11-yard score midway through the fourth quarter.
Evans finished 7-of-12 passing for 138 yards and 3 TDs for Buford. Turner racked up 128 yards on the ground.
Newton outgained Buford 303 to 269 for the game but three big turnovers -- all fumbles -- cost the Rams.
