GDOT okays $6.5M in road, bridge work in northeast Georgia

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Contracts totaling $6.5 million were awarded recently for three road and bridge construction projects in northeast Georgia.

The resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation on State Route 72 in Elbert County represented the largest of the contracts, which were awarded in August.  This resurfacing is a $4.7 million investment awarded to C&H Paving, Inc.  Spanning 7.8 miles, contractors will resurface State Route 72 just east of Nicksville Road and extend west of State Route 17. The estimated completion date for the project is July 2020.

Also included is the $1.6 million renovation of bridges at various locations along I-85 in Banks and Franklin counties.  The contract was awarded to Louis-Company, LLC. The project will maintain bridge decks and replace joints across 25 bridges along the I-85 corridor. It has an estimated completion date of August 2021.

The final project awarded is the rehabilitation of the State Route 15 (Sycamore Street) bridge over Curry Creek in Jackson County at a cost of $335,194.  The winning bid was submitted by E & D Contracting Services, Inc. The contractor will repair the sidewalk and light posts as well as maintain the bridge’s substructure. The work is expected to be finished by next May.

These were among $48 million worth of projects approved by the Georgia Department of Transportation in August.
