New QuikTrip store crosses final hurdle with Gainesville City Council

By B.J. Williams
A proposal for a QuikTrip convenience store at one of Gainesville's busiest intersections has cleared a final hurdle, at least with city government.

Gainesville City Council Tuesday night unanimously approved abandonment of a portion of Gordon Avenue at Jesse Jewell Parkway for an access point to the planned convenience store, which will sit at the corner of Jewell and Queen City Parkways.

Approval of the project comes with seven conditions, one of them somewhat unusual - the developers will be required to install "welcome to Gainesville" signage that complies with new imaging being used elsewhere in the city.

There's no word on when the company might break ground on the new store, since the Georgia Department of Transportation still has some decisions to make on access points at the highly-traveled intersection.
