Arrest made in Barrow County hit and run

By B.J. Williams
A Winder man is facing charges in a hit-and-run crash Sunday morning on Georgia 316 that left the driver of a Jeep Cherokee with serious injuries.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office said 22-year-old Zantravious Shields turned himself in to authorities on Monday, Sept. 16 around 3:30 p.m.

Major Ryan Sears said Shields faces charges of felony hit and run, felony serious injury by vehicle, failure to report a crash with damage/injuries, following too closely and improper lane change.

Sears did not have an update on the condition of the victim in the incident. The driver of the vehicle that Shields is charged with striking traveled off the highway just west of Barber Creek Road and struck a tree.

The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the sheriff's office. The grill and front passenger headlight of Shields' vehicle was dislodged during the accident. Investigators were able to release information to the public that helped with the identity of the suspect vehicle in the case.
