Volleyball: GHS, Chestatee sweeps highlight busy night around the area

GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville girls volleyball team rebounded from a pair of losses during the week with a sweep of Tallulah Falls and Lumpkin County at home on Thursday.

The Lady Red Elephants improved to 17-4 with the victories. They beat Tallulah Falls 25-15, 25-17 and followed with a straight-sets win over Lumpkin County 25-13, 25-14.

 

CHESTATEE TAKES HOME SWEEP

The Lady War Eagles got a pair of wins at home Thursday knnocking off Rabun County and Stephens County in straight-set victories.

Chestatee spkied Rabun County 25-14, 25-20 and then followed with a 25-18, 25-16 win over Stephens County.

Against Rabun County, senior setter, Maggie McNair, evenly dished out the offense to senior outside hitters, Lindsey Bornhorst and Chloe Riley, who each had 6 kills to lead the offense with. McNair also added 3 kills. Sophomore libero Ariana Hernandez led the team with 12 digs followed by right side sophomore, Bowen Corley, who had 8 digs.

Against Stephens County, the Lady War Eagles came out strong behind junior middle blocker Logan Wiggins, who recorded 10 kills. McNair had 4 aces and Hernandez led the defense with 11 digs.

 

WEST HALL RALLIES TO BEAT BLUFF

The Lady Spartans rallied from two sets down to beat Cherokee Bluff.

West Hall (8-7) dropped the first two sets 26-24 and 25-22 before storming back to win the final three sets 26-24, 25-19, and 15-10.

Cassidy Klekot had 19 blocks, 12 digs, and 8 kills. Cadie Shirley added 22 kills, 11 digs, and 5 aces with Kinsey Wilson recording 19 kills, 14 digs, and 8 blocks for West Hall. Kaitlyn Courson had 28 assists for the Lady Spartans, who will open region 7-4A play on Tuesday at White County. 

 

BRANCH SPLITS WITH JOHNSON, NORTH FORSYTH; LADY KNIGHTS' SWEPT

The Lady falcons split a tri-match with North Forsyth and Johnson on Thursday at the Johnson gym. 

Flowery Branch lost to North Forsyth 25-12, 25-11 and then rebounded with a 25-13, 25-15 over the host Lady Knights.

The Lady Knights also fell to North Forsyth 25-9, and 25-10.

Sophomore right side Bri Hall had 4 kills, 1 ace, and .5 block while fellow sophomore setter Savannah Regnier added 9 assists, 2 aces, and .5 block for Flowery Branch. Junior outside hitter Madi Sedwick had 2 kills, 1 ace, and 1.5 blocks, freshman middle blocker Emma Witman had 1 kill and 1 block, and senior middle blocker Sierra Lutz had 3 kills for the Lady Falcons. 

Flowery Branch next will travel to Grayson Saturday for a tournament.
