Brown blasts Vikings past Bluff; Buford rallies to beat No. 6 Archer

FLOWERY BRANCH — Abigail Brown was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and a grand slam to launch the Lady Vikings past Cherokee Bluff, 15-2, Wednesday afternoon on the road.

Brown drove in runs on a double in the second, and her grand slam was part of a 10-run inning for the Vikings (7-3).

Macy Banks picked up the win for the Vikings, surrendering two runs on one hit and four strikeouts through four innings of work.

Lauren Rule was 1-for-2 at the plate in drove in Cherokee Bluff's two runs.

For East Hall, Banks was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Calli Hardison was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Gracie Ausborn drove in one RBI and Carley Cox two RBIs.

The Wolves rallied in the sixth inning to beat Class 7A No. 6-ranked Archer, 5-3, on the road Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Amelia Veal picked two hitless innings in relief and earned the win in the circle for the Wolves. Freshman Olivia Duncan started the game, going five innings, allowing four hits, three unearned runs and six strikeouts. 

Duncan shifted from the circle to first base in the sixth. The move allowed Duncan to stay in the lineup, and it paid off in the sixth when she blasted a bases-loaded double, scoring the game-tying runs. 

Senior Kennedi Bauman belted a shot down the third-base line that rolled to the corner in left field that scored two runs and pushed the Wolves ahead, 5-3.

Veal sat Archer down in order in the seventh inning to seal the win.

Duncan finished the day 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Bauman was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Emi Hall and Anabel Adams each recorded a hit. 

Buford (9-4) will host Marist on Sept. 3. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
