LAWRENCEVILLE — Buford scored three runs in the seventh inning with two out to pull out a 5-2 win over Class 7A No. 5 Archer Monday in girls softball action.

The game was tied at 2-2 after the fourth inning but the Lady Tigers dropped a third strike on senior Anabel Adams that allowed the inning to continue and also  scored Taylor Malvin from third base. The Lady Wolves took advantage from there.

Ansleigh Hollifield followed with a single scoring Alicia Ross and Emi Hall doubled in Adams for the final score.

Senior Amelia Veal then finished off a dominant three innings in relief to earn the win in the circle for Buford. Veal allowed no hits or walks, no runs, and struck out five in relief. Hollifield started and allowed two runs in four innings.

Buford led 1-0 in the first on a RBI groundout by Hall but Archer answered with a run in the bottom of the first. The Lady Wolves took a 2-1 lead in the third when Adams homered to lead off the inning. But again Archer answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

The two teams will complete a home-and-home series on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Buford Softball complex.
