A string of 19 straight days with above-average temperatures in Gainesville is coming to an end Sunday, although things are likely to heat-up again later in the week.
Records compiled at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport show that August 5 was the last day that readings here were not above normal. In fact, going back to July 29, Gainesville has recorded 23 days of higher-than-normal temperatures. That's over a 27-day period. The highest during that period was a 95 on Aug. 13.
Highs Sunday and Monday are expected to reach only into the mid- to upper-70s. But, a warming trend through the week should push temperatures back into the upper 80s to near 90. The best chance of rain appears to be Monday night and Tuesday.
