JEFFERSON — Jackson County used a four-run fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie and then held on to beat Buford 6-3 Thursday in girls softball action.
The Lady Panthers (4-4-1) avenged an earlier 10-5 loss to the Lady Wolves (7-4). It was their third win in four games. It was the second consecutive loss for Buford in as many days.
Jackson County scored a run in the first but Buford plated two runs in the second on a two-run single from Olivia Duncan to grab the lead. The Lady Panthers tied the game in the third on a Buford error and blew the game open in the fourth on a RBI single from Madison Miller, a two-run single from Abigail Allen, and a RBI hit from Sara Beth Allen to pull away for a 6-2 lead.
The Lady Wolves got a run back in the sixth on a Emi Hall RBI single but could get no closer.
Sara Beth Allen got the win for Jackson County allowing three runs on six hits and striking out eight in a complete-game effort. Duncan (1-1) took the loss for Buford going just 3 1/3 innings giving up four runs on five hits and six walks. Duncan struck out seven.
NORTH HALL GETS 7-3A WIN
The North Hall girls softball team got its first Region 7-3A win of the season Thursday night.
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a quck 2-0 lead and then held on to beat Fannin County 3-2 at home.
North Hall (2-7, 1-2 Region 7-3A) has won two straight games after a rough start to the season.
Both teams were strong on the rubber Thursday, but North Hall Trojans Varsity defeated Fannin County 3-2. North Hall Trojan pitchers allowed just seven hits to Fannin County.
Anna Reeves got things started in the first inning with an RBI double as part of a two-run frame. North Hall added a run in the second after the Lady Rebels (1-9, 0-3) scored a run in the top of the second. Fannin County closed the gap to 3-2 with a run in the fifth but could get no closer.
Kendal Clackum earned the win for North Hall going six innings and scattering seven hits. Kristen Dowdy pitched the final inning in relief to get the save.
Kaelyn Hensley took the loss for Fannin County despite giving up just two runs and three hits.
Hannah Payne and Reeves both had two hits in a six-hit attack for North Hall.
North Hall is off until traveling to Dawson County on Tuesday in another Region 7-3A battle.
