Don’t date the guy who doesn’t appreciate your dog.

Don’t date the guy who doesn’t appreciate your dog.

You come along with a heap of baggage—not necessarily negative baggage, maybe I am using the wrong word here, but more so you come along with defining qualities like your quirks, a pet if you have one and whatever personality you are intended to have.

Don’t date the person who can’t accept all of what you bring to the table.

I’m not much of a dater, so when I get involved, I truly see the potential in that person. Of course, you have to remember that getting to know a person takes time. He or she can come off as the perfect match—so much so you wonder where this person has been hiding and how long fate has kept you apart, but things aren’t always what they seem.

I don’t want to turn into Taylor Swift—write about past relationships, or lack thereof, cry on my keyboard and walk out of a burning building, but hey, people get their inspiration from somewhere and this is hypothetical.

With that being said, let me continue…

Sometimes the rest of the world paints the picture of an award-winning person who does no wrong, is smart, savvy, attractive and passionate, but remember you once thought those same things.

As time moves along, you’re shut behind a door alone with another being and you realize the painting becomes more subjective and you get a different meaning behind the artwork.

All of a sudden your dog is stupid and misbehaved. You stink, because suddenly the perfume you wear every day fills the room and is overwhelming. What you eat is wrong, the way you let your car run for five minutes was a mistake and the way you talk to people is too nice or flirtatious.

You’re told how you feel and why you feel that way. You’re too immature or too sensitive for your own good. You’re scolded because you chose not to sweep and mop the floors of a home that doesn’t belong to you. You’re called ugly and told you deserve attention from creepy guys because you chose to wear a dress that day.

A single person can make you feel two inches tall, but only if you let them.

Don’t date the guy who doesn’t appreciate your dog.

Don’t date the guy who doesn’t appreciate you.

And lastly, don’t ignore red flags.
