Forsyth County adopts tobacco-free, vape-free policy for parks

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A new ordinance prohibiting the use of tobacco and vape products in Forsyth County parks was approved by county commissioners this month.

In a release, the Forsyth County government said commissioners approved the new ordinance on August 1. The ban includes indoor and outdoor parks facilities and also prohibits the use of any form of alternative nicotine product.

District Three Commissioner Todd Levent said the new ordinance is to enhance safety in the county's parks.

“Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death and disability in the U.S. so it made sense that the county adopt this ordinance for the safety of our residents," Levent said.

The Forsyth County government said law enforcement is already enforcing the ordinance and the county will install signage to alert guests to the new policy.

According to the release, Forsyth County is the 22nd Georgia county to adopt a tobacco-free parks policy.
