Oakwood PD hiring as part of goal towards state certification

Oakwood Police are searching for six new officers to add to their force.

City Council unanimously approved a budget ammendment at their Monday meeting to allow for the hiring of the new officers.

"We just don't want to come up short on supervision and having back-up capability," said City Manager Stan Brown. "To meet the mission and do the job, we felt like it was time."

Police Chief Tim Hatch said when he was sworn in as chief in April that his primary goal was too get the city state certification.

Brown said the additional hiring was all part of getting that certification.

"Not that we haven't been doing a good job policing in the past, we just want to update our professional standards and policies," said Brown. "And as we're growing as a community, we need addition staffing to have proper man power on shifts."

Brown said they especially wanted more staff for the night shift and that they needed at least four groups of officers to cover the 12-hour shifts every day and night.

Applications are available here and should be turned in to the Oakwood Police Department.
