Michael Smith dominates for Thunder Series win at WBS

Michael Smith had them covered at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway on Saturday night.

Smith led wire-to-wire en route to the win in the GRIFCO 602 Thunder Series feature win at the 1/4-mile clay raceway.

The Laurens, South Carolina native started the night on the outside of the front row, and edged out pole sitter John Price as the pair battled through turns one and two. From there, Smith began moving away from the field.

The biggest incident of the race occurred on a restart, when five cars tangled in turn one, including Nick Sellers, Mark Wilbanks, Chase Lampp, Jeremy Mayfield, and Tyler Canup.

Back under green, Smith continued to dominate, and led all 25-laps to score the victory.

Price finished in second, followed by Rod Roberts in third, Mayfield in fourth and Sellers in fifth.

In other action, the Limited Late Model feature was filled with on-track fireworks, as a pair of drivers tangled on the front stretch, leaving one car sitting on top of the other, facing the wrong way. That led to a scuffle between the two, resulting in both drivers being escorted from the premises.

In the meantime, John Anderson scored the victory, with Aaron Calvert in second, Ken Lampp in fourth and Jeffery Lampp in fourth.

Wormy Gaddis took the win in the Modified Street feature. Jordan Poole followed in second, with Nick Sellers in third, Arti Ridgeway in fourth and Aaron Criswell in fifth.

Jeff Casper held off Mark Chancey to win in the Stock V8 feature, with Ronnie Poole, Trey Pilgrim and Tim Corbin rounding out the top five.

Justin Taylor drove to the Stock 4A feature win, followed by Scotty Cox in second, Kyle Braswell in third, P.J. Taylor in fourth and Roger Cothran in fifth.

Adam Jones took the victory in the Stock 4B feature, with Derrick Lord second, John Martin third, William Earnest fourth and Brandon Cox fifth.

Wayne Chapman, Jr. scored the Front Wheel Drive feature win. Steven Shedd followed in second, with Jack McBride third, Eddie Segars fourth and Michael Davis fifth.
