Object of north Gainesville manhunt remains at large

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

A man who fled on foot from a traffic stop in north Gainesville Saturday afternoon remained at large at last check.

Cpl. Jessica Van said Saturday “a traffic stop was initiated after a traffic violation. Contact was made with the driver. Shortly after, the driver fled on foot.”

Van added that officers had the man’s name and police “were in the area searching for him. He’s been identified.”

The incident unfolded near the Enota Avene/Thompson Bridge Road intersection and at least one resident on Enota reported on Facebook that there were a couple of police cars near her house Saturday afternoon and officers on foot, one with a police dog, walking through the neighborhood.

Late Sunday morning, police said the suspect was still at large.

“We were not able to locate the individual,” Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.  “Positive identification was made before the individual ran, warrants are being obtained.”
