ATHENS, Ga. — Brenton Cox has been released from the University of Georgia football team, according to a report from UGASports.com on Monday.
UGASports reports the sophomore linebacker was dismissed on Sunday.
Head coach Kirby Smart has not made comment or issued a statement regarding the dismissal. UGA defensive coordinator Dan Lanning was asked about Cox Monday morning and deflected the question to Smart.
The reason for the dismissal is unknown at this time, but Cox was facing a possible suspension for an arrest in April.
Cox started one game for the Bulldogs in 2018 and played in 13 of 14 games. He recorded 20 tackles.
