Jacobs Media announced Monday the publication of Kickoff 2019, a 100-page, full-color magazine dedicated exclusively to high school football in North Georgia.
The inaugural edition, which includes previews of 24 teams in the region, player profiles, schedules and more, will be available starting Wednesday at more than 50 locations, including the WDUN studios on Thompson Bridge Road. A full list of locations will be posted on AccessWDUN and on its social media platforms.
The magazine will be available for free.
“We all know how big high school football is in North Georgia,” John W. “Jay” Jacobs III, president and CEO of Jacobs Media, said. “I’m so proud of the work our team put in to produce Kickoff 2019. It’s beautifully produced and chocked full of information that I know high school football fans will be eager to read. We can’t wait for readers to see it.”
The magazine, the first of its kind for Jacobs Media, was developed, written, edited and designed entirely by the AccessWDUN staff. More than 50 local businesses purchased advertising in the publication, and those advertisers will help distribute the magazine starting Wednesday.
“I felt we could produce a high-quality publication that would expand how we serve our readers and listeners,” Bill Maine, vice president and general manager, said. “Our staff did an excellent job producing it, and it will become a great part of our longstanding tradition of covering of local sports.”
The Kickoff 2019 publication is just one part of Jacobs Media’s coverage plans for the upcoming football season. The Kickoff 2019 online preview, which features different content than the magazine, will go live on Thursday, August 15 – the same day WDUN launches “ChopBlock Playbook,” a new high school football radio program that will originate each Thursday during the season from ChopBlock Food & Spirits in downtown Gainesville.
The show will be hosted by AccessWDUN sports editor Bo Wilson and Caleb Hutchins, who hosts the Friday night tailgate and scoreboard shows. Fans are encouraged to go to ChopBlock each Thursday to be part of the show.
Each Friday night during the season, three games will be broadcast on radio – on WDUN AM, WDUN FM and The Lake AM/FM. The games can also be streamed via the stations’ website or streaming apps.
